Daughters
of the North
Born from the elements of Iceland.
They are the landscape.
A collection of contemporary digital mixed-media artworks by Icelandic artist Kristin Couch. Each daughter carries the atmosphere of the land that shaped her.

The series began with a single figure: Daughter of Moss and Earth. A suggestion from Kristin’s husband to bring more of the Icelandic landscape into the image changed the direction of the work.
As the land became more present, the figure became inseparable from it. Moss and earth seemed to take human form. One daughter became the beginning of many.

Today, the growing collection explores Iceland through its elemental contrasts: the warmth beneath lava, the silence of ice, the persistence of falling water and the restless movement of wind.
The land remembers.
Volcanic force and quiet growth belong to the same landscape. Here, the daughters carry the tension between transformation, rootedness and the steady presence of stone.
